The Air Pollution and Health Research Lab (APHRL) at Kathmandu University is dedicated to enhancing indoor air quality and public health. The lab develops innovative cooking solutions, including efficient pellet stoves and alternatives like LPG and electric stoves, to reduce indoor air pollution.

About APHRL

The Air Pollution and Health Research Lab (APHRL) at Kathmandu University has transformed from the ‘Biomass Stove Testing Lab’ into a new laboratory dedicated to improving indoor air quality and public health. Initially focused on designing and testing biomass stoves to reduce harmful emissions in rural communities, the lab has broadened its scope to address the health impacts of indoor air pollution from biomass pellet stoves.

The lab’s primary objective is to enhance public health through cleaner cooking solutions. APHRL has been producing improved cook stoves that showed better health outcomes, including reduced eye irritation and improved respiratory health among the users, thanks to lower emissions and higher efficiency… Read More
